Hawaii Inspired

A beautiful little film celebrating the Hawaiian life came across my facebook feed yesterday, and it made me miss my island days. Yes, Hawaii is paradise, and those that are fortunate enough to live there, even for a moment, are truly blessed. Life seems to feel pale in comparison to the simplicity and beauty of the day to day Hawaiian existence, but, the truth is, the island way is available everywhere. It is a state of being as much as it as a geographical location, and I strive to capture the essence of Hawaii wherever I am in the world, even in Virginia.

Here are the Hawaii inspired rules I live by…

Connect with nature.

Be kind.

Eat mindfully.

Live Mindfully.

Don’t apologize for who you are.

Leave your shoes at the door.

Forgive people.

Get in the ocean.

Get out of your comfort zone.

Cook dinner for your friends.

Ladies, wear a flower in your hair.

Laugh. Alot.

Surround yourself with positive people.

Take pause and watch the sunset as often as you can.

No drama. Whatsoever. There are too many other amazing things to put your energy towards…

Unleash your inner artist.

Take Walks.

Life is too short to be imprisoned by insecurities.

Respect the land.

Stand for something.

Turn off the television*

Be of service.

Create healthy relationships.

Support your local farmers.

Spend time in wide open spaces.

Close your eyes.

It’s pretty easy, actually.

(The list is not entirely Hawaii specific, but it most definitely summarizes my experience while living there…)

* Turn off the TV…Except for thursdays at 9 pm when Gang Rlated is on Fox. Obviously.

If you want some more inspiration…
