Kate is a fantastic guide in many ways. I use the word guide because she doesn't just instruct you into yoga poses or tell you to clear your mind and meditate she changes your perspective to get you there on your own. She seems to grasp that everybody thinks or understands things differently and she is great at adjusting her methods to different peoples way of learning. I started just taking her yoga classes and it inspired me so much I ended up in her 200 hour yoga teacher training. I have been teaching for three years now and I love it! ~April


My early relationship with yoga was specific and physical, demanding both sweat and challenge as a means to bruise my ego and quiet my mind. However, after many travels, changes, and ongoing transformations, I have embraced yoga to be much, much more. Yoga is life, and most of us just need to learn, or perhaps unlearn, how to open our eyes and see it. The challenge is, modern yoga seems like a tangled, and often intimidating, mess of teachings, styles, and, yes, brands. Navigating through the yoga web can be challenging, but you can be certain of a few truths that sit at the very center of the practice. Yoga truths:

  • Yoga is not a religion, and there is no kool-aid.
  • Yoga is about shifting perspectives and realigning with life in a way that channels you through stress, challenge, and pain in a healthy way.
  • Yoga is about both strength and grace.
  • Yoga is about becoming whole.
  • Yoga is about feeling connected.
  • Yoga is about coming face to face with yourself, whether you like what you see or not.
  • Yoga is about being receptive.
  • Yoga is about accepting others.
  • Yoga is about happiness.
  • Yoga is about authenticity.
  • Yoga is about breathing. If you breathe, life gets better.
  • Yoga is about showing up. If you show up and keep showing up, life gets better.

The list goes on, but why don’t you step on a yoga mat and see for yourself? The first step is to show up, and if you are willing to show up and take responsibility for yourself, and for your life, then maybe it is time for some downward-facing dogs.     Adho Mukha Svanasana

    This pose is a great upper body strengthener, hamstring opener, and a mild inversion, which holds all kinds of healing benefits for the body!


  • Making sure your shoulders are over your wrists, align the body as if you were going to do a push up.
  • Without moving your hands or feet, lift your hips up and press back to lengthen the spine.Keep the knees soft at first to maximize the extension of the spine.
  • Press firmly through the pads of the fingers, especially the thumb, first finger and middle finger.
  • Keep the arms active and strong, fully extending through the elbows.
  • Pull the shoulder blades away from the ears to maintain length in the neck.
  • Spread the shoulder blades away from each other and draw the low ribs in to the body.
  • Make sure the heels are lined up directly behind the second and the third toes.
  • Straighten and engage the legs as long as it does not compromise the length of the spine.
  • Internally rotate the upper legs.
  • Gaze in between the feet to keep the neck in line with the spine.
  • Breathe.
